Also, the catalyst that lit a rocket under Aussie healthtech - silver lining

What better way to top up that motivation and momentum than to dive into all the delicious events this coming week…

But first, with IWD and the much-needed march on Monday, let’s shine a light on women.

Did you know Healthtech makes up the biggest industry in Victoria’s startup sector (18% )? But only 23% of founders are female - We can do better.

It’s just as bleak in the world of funding and even specialist medical training. In 2019 women received less than 3% of VC funding (throw in minority groups and it only gets worse).

Imagine the companies we’re missing out on!

Now there are some badass women leading the way, especially in healthtech (Looking at you ANDHealth, Telstra Health & Healthmatch to name a few). But there’s still a long way to go, not only for gender equality but also in making healthcare and tech a truly inclusive, warm and welcoming place for everybody.

That’s why communities like Sogal (VC for women by women), Tech Ready Women, The Startmate Fellowship and Women Who Code are So. Damn. Important.

Back in the day I first dipped my toes in with Blue Chilli’s SheStarts program and probably wouldn’t be here without it.

So let’s keep it coming - All the non-women out there, we need your help. Together we slay 🔥
