On pause... I'm officially a med school dropout (MD Defector) & ready to mingle at our meetups!
Next roundup to drop next week, but for now here's a terrible grad photo for you all
Hello hello!
As you have probably realised, this is not your usual fortnightly roundup.
🍩 Sorry - it’ll drop as an extra juicy dish next week instead.
I’m taking a pause this week for some R&R and jetted up to Sydney to officially become an “MD Defector” (med school dropout ft a BMed), taking expensive photos and pretending I was at Hogwarts for the day.
Only 3.5 years after I “took the year off”. Isn’t life funny…
WARNING: Cheesy Graduation photo and life update no one asked for
For those who don’t yet know my convoluted story - here’s the TL;DR
At the end of 2017, I hit pause, took an internship in Corporate & Institutional Banking then galivanted off to Latin America. Enjoyed life, learned Spanish, worked on a Caribbean island and at a healthcare NGO in Colombia’s coffee region, eventually came back and fumbled my way into the world of startups. First founding an early-stage social impact fintech, dabbling in digital health, followed by managing the Community at Stone & Chalk Melbourne helping Startups scale and commercialise, and building out programs and partnerships.
And now, obviously, everything healthtech.
I officially withdrew at the start of last year - but COVID, so graduations were a no-no.
I’m notorious for running from one thing to the next without taking a breath, but it’s been lovely to for once, step back, and celebrate with friends and family. Especially after last year.
💥Meetups
Sydney folk - It was amazing seeing some of you at drinks last night!
Looking forward to next time.Melbourne - Get ready to party tomorrow (in a responsible manner obviously - too old for that nonsense).
Our meetup group has boomed with over 125 people in just 2 weeks for Melbourne, so looking forward to continuing to grow our lil community 🚀
Know someone who might like to stay up to date with the latest happenings in healthtech or find this interesting?
Ok, no more life updates (unless you ask, which you are more than welcome to).
And please feel free to share with me anything exciting happening in your world.
See you soon!
👋 Emily
